I must confess that I’ve never actually been to Disneyland. Preferring to cherry-pick what I consume from the Disney empire I suspect that the hustle and bustle of a Disney Park would be an off-putting experience for someone like myself, who is only really interested in the art of it all. Thank goodness for books such as The Poster Art of Disney Parks which allows me to indulge in all the fantastic graphic design, marketing material and teasers that have come out the of the magic factory over the decades. From the stylised 1950s look of the Monorail to The Haunted Mansion and the latest Star Tours ride, its poster design in its purest form and displayed alongside working roughs, variations and breakdowns of the screen printing process.
A book that effectively tells the visual history of Disney Parks with its changes in design aesthetic in plain view, it’s a masterclass in poster design, brilliantly reproduced in large format and more than enough to keep this Disney fan happy.
